Camp Sequassen

Adult Programs and Activities

Welcome to the vibrant world of adult leader programming at Camp Sequassen! While your youth are busy forging lifelong memories and climbing their way through rank advancements, adult leaders and parents can participate in specialized training, recreational activities, networking, and skill certifications. Stay active, build camaraderie, and make your summer camp experience just as unforgettable.

Scouter Programs

Adult leaders are invited to unwind and socialize through an array of engaging events. A primary highlight is the highly anticipated Scout Leader Cook-Off held in the energetic heart of the Scoutcraft Area. This friendly competition provides a space for leaders to showcase their premier campsite recipes, culinary prowess, and Dutch oven secrets while competing for ultimate camp bragging rights and bonding over shared techniques.

Beyond the cook off, leaders can step away from administrative duties and head down to the athletic fields for a high-energy match during the historic Staff vs. Scouter volleyball game. This tradition pits camp staff against visiting leaders, fostering unforgettable camp camaraderie and competitive spirit. Leaders are also welcome to participate in almost any activities for Scouts, provided Scouts get priority during the activity. Stop by Handicrafts to practice your crafting skills at the Tri-Craft-alon, visit the Archery Range to test your aim, or participate in the daily buildups to the Mile Swim.

Scouter Trainings

To support unit safety and promote professional growth, the camp provides robust educational courses. Chief among these are vital health courses, including specialized Youth Mental Health First Aid Training, conducted offsite in collaboration with the Farmington Valley Health District. Leaders can also expand their supervision toolkit by taking the Tobacco and THC Youth Awareness Program alongside the crucial Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Training for essential crisis intervention skills.

For aquatic safety, leaders can dive into the rigorous, week-long American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification program. Open to classified blue swimmers, this comprehensive course requires an additional fee and awards a full professional certification in lifesaving, first aid, and CPR/FPR with AED. Additionally, the camp supports foundational leadership by offering Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS) and Leave No Trace training to master low-impact camping philosophies and environmental conservation protocols.

Scouter Merit Badge

The Scouter Merit Badge is a popular award program designed specifically for adult leaders who want to experience the magic of the reservation firsthand. This unique incentive challenges adults to step outside of their standard campsite management duties and engage directly with the camp’s various operational departments. Rather than acting as passive observers, leaders get to model lifelong learning for their youth by actively participating in hands-on activities and testing their personal skills.

Earning this badge provides a structured and fulfilling way for both veteran Scoutmasters and brand-new parents to explore camp. Over the week, leaders will fulfill requirements that check their skills across shooting sports, aquatics, and scoutcraft. By completing these diverse tasks, adult participants earn a tangible token of their dedication. More importantly, working on the badge builds deep, lasting camaraderie with fellow Scouters across the reservation as they navigate challenges together, reinforcing a strong sense of community.

Held Monday through Friday at 11:50 AM, the Daily Scouter Roundtables provide a dedicated midday space for adult leaders to gather with the camp administration directly before lunch. These brief, structured meetings are vital for staying updated on rapidly changing daily schedules, discussing campwide operations, and coordinating unit success. Beyond receiving essential logistical updates, the roundtables serve as an invaluable networking forum where leaders from across the region can exchange advanced strategies and share instructional insights. It is the perfect daily opportunity to foster professional camaraderie and enhance your leadership toolkit before heading to the dining hall.
