Why a Scout Should Attend a Second Week at Camp Sequassen
Attending a second week at Camp Sequassen can be one of the most enriching and impactful experiences a Scout can have. The first week of camp is often filled with learning the layout, getting used to the schedule, and adapting to camp life. By the time Friday rolls around, most Scouts are just starting to hit their stride—making new friends, gaining confidence, and becoming more independent. A second week gives them the opportunity to build on that momentum and take their experience to the next level.
One of the biggest benefits of a second week at Camp Sequassen is skill advancement. In just one week, a Scout might earn a few merit badges, start working on rank requirements, and try out some activities. With a second week, they can complete more advanced badges or continue progress on ones they’ve already started. For example, a Scout who took Rifle Shooting in week one might move on to Archery or Shotgun in week two. A beginner swimmer could start the Mile Swim or even train to be a ARC Lifeguard. The extra time allows Scouts to dive deeper into their interests instead of just scratching the surface.
Socially, a second week strengthens friendships and leadership skills. Scouts often meet others from different towns, troops, and councils. With more time together, those relationships grow and help form bonds that can last far beyond the summer. The extra week also allows for more involvement in troop leadership roles and camp-wide events like the Fire Hose Competition, Sequassen Land & Sea games, and so much more. A Scout might begin the summer as a shy newcomer but leave after two weeks as a confident team player and a role model for others.
Another key advantage is growth in independence and personal responsibility. The more time a Scout spends away from home in a structured environment like Camp Sequassen, the more confident and capable they become. After the first week, many Scouts begin taking more initiative—getting themselves to merit badge sessions, keeping track of their gear, and helping out around camp without being asked. The second week reinforces these life skills and gives Scouts more opportunities to practice them.
Camp Sequassen also offers unique second-week programs that aren’t always accessible in week one. These may include high-adventure activities like Older Scout Adventures, Cooking Merit Badge, or Trail To Eagle. Some special merit badges or week-long challenges are only available to returning campers or Scouts staying multiple weeks. These advanced opportunities reward Scouts who want more from their summer experience.
Finally, a second week simply multiplies the fun. Campfires, open programs, waterfront adventures, trading post runs, and games are highlights that only get better the second time around. Camp Sequassen has a deep tradition of excellence, and its staff works hard to ensure that every camper has a dynamic, engaging, and safe experience. With more time at camp, Scouts can make the most of what Camp Sequassen has to offer and leave with memories that last a lifetime.
In short, one week at Camp Sequassen is great. Two weeks? That’s where the magic really happens.
