Camp Sequassen

What’s New in 2026?

Now that the 2026 Leader’s Guide is published, the buzz around Camp Sequassen is palpable! This summer promises to be one of the most exciting yet, with a slew of new programs, activities, and training opportunities designed to enhance the Scout experience for everyone—youth and adults alike. We’ve listened to feedback and worked hard to introduce dynamic new elements across key areas: merit badges, afternoon open programs, and essential adult leadership training. Get ready to explore the new paths to adventure, skill-building, and camaraderie that await you in the picturesque setting of Camp Sequassen. From cutting-edge technology to high-energy sports and fast-paced creativity challenges, 2026 is setting a new standard for summer camp fun and learning. Exciting New Merit Badges Join the Ranks We are thrilled to announce the addition of two highly anticipated Merit Badges for the 2026 season, reflecting both the traditional skills of Scouting and the demands of the modern world. Multisport Merit Badge offers Scouts the chance to engage with and develop skills across a variety of athletic disciplines, promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a dynamic, high-energy format. Complementing this hands-on activity is the introduction of the Cybersecurity Merit Badge, a critical skill in today’s digital landscape. This badge will challenge Scouts to understand the fundamentals of online safety, data protection, and ethical digital citizenship, ensuring they are prepared for an increasingly interconnected future. These badges represent our commitment to providing relevant and engaging educational opportunities. Instant Art Challenge Sparks Creativity and Speed The Handicrafts area is stepping up the fun with a brand new, high-energy activity: the Instant Art Challenge. Step into the wild world of creativity! In this fast-paced activity, Scouts will race against the clock to sketch a surprise object—but with a twist. This is not about perfection; it’s about improvisation, quick thinking, and letting creativity flow under pressure. The challenge is designed to be loud, chaotic, and incredibly fun, allowing Scouts to express themselves artistically while testing their ability to adapt quickly. It’s the perfect open program for those looking for a burst of imaginative action during their free time. Fasten & Furious: Lashing Structures Under Pressure Get ready for some competitive engineering with Fasten & Furious! This new open activity takes the fundamental Scout skill of pioneering and turns it into a heart-pounding race. Campers race to build and lash creative structures in a fast-paced, hands-on challenge. Clear communication and teamwork matter just as much as speed, making the whole experience loud, competitive, and fun. Patrols or groups of friends will need to work seamlessly together to execute their lashing plans efficiently. This program not only reinforces practical knots and lashings but also highlights the importance of strategic planning and collaborative effort under time constraints. Basketball Tournament Brings High-Energy Competition For the sports enthusiasts, Camp Sequassen is introducing a structured Basketball Tournament. Bring your fellow Scouts together for fast-paced games, teamwork, and friendly competition. This addition provides a fantastic opportunity for Scouts to showcase their skills, sportsmanship, and love of the game in an exciting, high-energy setting. The tournament will run on Thursdays, culminating in a championship game, fostering a spirit of healthy rivalry and camaraderie across different troops. It’s a great way to unwind, stay active, and bond with new friends over a shared passion for basketball. Crucial Adult Leader Training for Support We are prioritizing the support and preparedness of our adult leaders with the introduction of two vital training programs this year. New adult trainings include Youth Mental Health First Aid and QPR training (Question, Persuade, Refer). These sessions are designed to equip adult volunteers with the skills to recognize and respond to mental health challenges and crises among young people. Offering these resources is part of our commitment to ensuring a safe, supportive, and holistic environment for every camper. Investing in these skills strengthens the adult leadership team and enhances the overall well-being of all participants at Camp Sequassen. Merit Badge Spotlight: Automotive Maintenance

The Automotive Maintenance merit badge at Camp Sequassen offers Scouts a hands-on experience in essential vehicle maintenance skills. Part of the camp’s STEM and Trade area in North Sequassen, this badge involves practical, real-world learning. Due to material complexity, it is only open to Scouts entering grade 9 or higher in Fall 2026. Essential Vehicle Checks: Safety, Fluids, and Tires A major focus of the week is learning the routine inspections every vehicle owner should perform. Scouts dive into understanding how to check and top off critical fluids, including oil, coolant, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid. We’ll cover the different types and what each color signifies. Tire maintenance is another cornerstone; you’ll learn how to properly check tire pressure, understand tread wear patterns, and even practice the steps involved in changing a flat tire safely. This section emphasizes the crucial link between maintenance and road safety. Understanding the Engine’s Basic Functional Components What makes the engine go? This section demystifies the basic components under the hood. Instructors lead Scouts through identifying parts like the air filter, battery, spark plugs, and various belts and hoses. You’ll learn the function of each component and recognize the signs of potential failure. The instruction often involves working with training aids and demonstration vehicles, allowing for an unobstructed view of the engine’s layout and operation. Simple Troubleshooting Techniques for Common Problems Automotive issues don’t always require a mechanic. Scouts will learn basic troubleshooting—what to do when the check engine light comes on, the car won’t start, or a fuse blows. We cover how to safely inspect fuses, jump-start a dead battery using correct procedures, and diagnose minor electrical issues. The goal is to equip Scouts with the confidence to handle small problems themselves and know when it’s time to call a professional. Important Tool Identification and Safe Shop Practices Safety is paramount when working with vehicles. A significant portion of the badge focuses on proper tool identification and usage, from wrenches and sockets to torque specifications. Scouts are drilled on safe shop practices, including proper lifting techniques, eye protection, and managing chemical spills. Understanding the right tool for the job prevents damage and ensures safety, a foundational concept for any trade. Complete the Badge During Your Week at Camp One of the best features of this badge at Camp Sequassen is that there are no prerequisites. We’ve structured the curriculum so that any eligible Scout can begin the week with no prior knowledge and successfully complete all requirements during their single week at camp. Our dedicated, expert counselors provide the instruction, equipment, and guidance needed to ensure a fulfilling and achievable experience.
