Camp Sequassen

The Trail to Eagle Program at Camp Sequassen is designed specifically for Scouts who are ready to take the final steps toward achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Open to First Class, Star, and Life Scouts entering grade 8 or higher in Fall 2025, this week-long experience helps participants tackle Eagle-required merit badges that aren’t available during a typical camp schedule.

In addition to coursework, Scouts take part in meaningful discussions about leadership, Eagle service projects, Board of Review preparation, and life after Eagle. Whether it’s a Scout’s first step on the trail or the final requirement left, this program is a cornerstone in preparing tomorrow’s Eagle Scouts.

Citizenship Badge Week

Offered Weeks 1-3

Life Skills Week

Offered Weeks 4-7

Citizenship Badge Week focuses on citizenship-based merit badges—a critical component of the Eagle Scout journey. Scouts can earn three essential badges: Citizenship in the Community (9:00 AM), Citizenship in the Nation (10:00 AM), and Citizenship in the World (2:00 PM). These badges cover key aspects of American civic responsibility and global awareness, and the camp setting provides a unique opportunity to explore these topics through group discussion, collaborative projects, and counselor-led exploration of current events.

These courses are tailored specifically for older Scouts, allowing for deeper dialogue on complex topics such as government structure, civil service, and the role of international organizations. Camp Sequassen’s Trail to Eagle staff foster an environment of critical thinking and personal reflection while guiding Scouts through the requirements. The small class sizes, paired with dedicated counselors, help ensure each Scout receives the attention they need to succeed and truly understand what it means to be a responsible citizen—locally, nationally, and globally.

Life Skills Week focuses on life skill development, offering another set of key Eagle-required merit badges. In the morning, Scouts take Communication at 9:00 AM and Personal Management at 10:00 AM—two badges known for challenging Scouts to improve their interpersonal, financial, and planning skills. In the afternoon, Scouts tackle the Hiking merit badge at 2:00 PM, learning safety procedures, trail planning, and endurance techniques that tie directly into outdoor leadership.

These badges are taught in a dynamic and engaging way that balances camp fun with serious preparation. Communication explores public speaking and leadership scenarios, often culminating in mock speeches or interviews. Personal Management focuses on real-life budgeting, savings plans, and time management. The Hiking badge is taught both in-class and out on Sequassen’s extensive trail system, offering Scouts a chance to experience firsthand the planning and perseverance required in long-distance hiking. This practical approach empowers Scouts with life skills that extend far beyond the path to Eagle.

Additional Benefits

The Trail to Eagle program offers a rare opportunity for Scouts to complete several Eagle-required merit badges in one focused, structured environment. Because these badges often require more maturity, detailed responses, and independent work, having them guided by dedicated camp counselors—who specialize in these topics—makes a huge difference. More than simply earning badges, Scouts leave the program with a clearer understanding of leadership, responsibility, and citizenship.

Beyond the course content, Scouts benefit from networking and camaraderie with others who share the same goal. Many participants find motivation in being surrounded by peers also working toward Eagle. The experience includes group seminars, leadership challenges, and guidance on building an Eagle project proposal or preparing for the Board of Review.
